“The most impressive Jazz bass player in Germany“ is what the FAZ called this musician who continuously crosses musical boundaries. For many years Dieter Ilg has been one oft he most influential voices in European Jazz. His vitality, intelligent curiosity, technical brilliance and total commitment to the moment earned him the ECHO award twice already. It is Ludwig van Beethoven from whom double bass player Dieter Ilg gets the inspiration and material for his trio with Rainer Böhm on piano and Patrice Héral on drums. Chamber-jazz, intimate as well as extrovert and surprisingly dynamic. Ilg’s Trio dissolves any boundaries that might exist between musical eras and genres and he simply creates pure music.

As consistent and forceful as never before he pursues his idea of his own personal exploration of sound; an acoustic trio interacting on the highest level, creating moments so magical as to make this trio one of the most intense and organic live bands of its kind.

A pleasure to listen to not only for die-hard jazz fans but for anyone who loves music. THOMAS QUASTHOFF / celebrated baritone

Ilg, Böhm and Heral are extremely focussed on sounding as one – no trio has sounded this involved with each other’s music in a long time. NDR – KULTURTIPPS

Dieter Ilg and his trio are world class. GITARRE & BASS

devoid of kitsch or pathos this trio approaches Beethoven’s Oevre with joy and sincerity. The well-known works are revealed in a totally new way. Ilg’s trio give us a perfect example of how rich adaptions can be. So be careful: this Beethoven is addictive. JPC Platz 1 Jazz Charts

It is music, just pure and beautiful music, and it makes me soar (which really is saying something) VINCENT KLINK / celebrity chef

Jazz and classical music. Dieter Ilg knows both worlds. Even though he decided to be a Jazz bassist only aged 16 he began by studying classical double bass at the Musikhochschule (conservatory/academy of music) in Freiburg – not least because of its musical history (if this is the musical history of the institution?). And it was even before Richard Wagner’s bicentenary that this bassist – one of the leading in Europe now for many years – discovered one of the most significant German Opera composers. Already with his trio (with pianist Rainer Böhm and drummer Patrice Héral) Ilg explored Wagner’s counterpart Guiseppe Verdi, whose bicentenary is also celebrated in 2013. His subtle adaptation of OTELLO caused a lot of excitement at the time. Now the Echo-Award winning Ilg devotes his attention to Richard Wagners Parsifal and published his version of Wagner’s music on the world-renowned label ACT. We’re curious to see more of the trio’s profundity and joy of playing.

Now the German “world class bass player” (Jazzthing) is presenting his new trio.

You could say that Dieter Ilg is “the word” when it comes to bass playing on the German Jazz scene. Almost like no other he understands how to use all the possibilities of his instrument so as to make his skillful sound applicable in every context imaginable. He managed to bridge the gap between working on his own creative projects (taking it as far as founding his own label) while at the same time consolidating his reputation as one of the most sought after sidemen in Europe. Now the German “world class bass player” (Jazzthing) is presenting his new trio. Here you have visionary musicians collaborating with each other. His choice of musical collaborators – two very fine magicians of sound and masters of their craft – is proof of Dieter Ilg’s superb taste. They are the brilliantly expressive Rainer Böhm on piano and the creative “magic bag” Patrice Heral on drums and voice.

An musical adventure crowned with great success.
